Unit 45: Evaluation Contemporary Dance Technique

In my technique class I had to maintain my discipline to a satisfactory level, as this helped me to improve my stretching techniques such as groin stretching, at first it was very intense however as time went on I started to see changes within my body such as my muscles loosening up. In which it was demonstrated during my warm ups each day as I was becoming more aware of my flexibility improving.
The improvements I made during the last term was the fact I was able to do the ‘rand de jambe’ whereas before I was struggling to even put my leg up for ages while rotating it, as I was lacking balance and I didn't have a strong torso to keep my leg up while moving it clockwise. Furthermore to enhance my ‘rand de jambe’ I done numerous of stretching on Saturday mornings and Yoga on Sunday mornings, which I found definitely beneficial as I was able to see a progress in my flexibility while performing Overdrive.
I didn't respond to directions and correction fondly as that was my weakness during the piece Overdrive; as the piece included a lot of diagonals and sharp movements going into flows; shuttle movements which I found the contrast of switching the two rapidly extremely difficult. This was displayed during my rehearsal process as I recorded my self to re-watch myself, for me to be able to see improvement while leading up to my final Overdrive performance.

The physical skills I am most competent in now is the coordination and stamina. As body coordination is the ability to move two or more body parts under control, smoothly and efficiently. Also it helps improve body posture and agility which helps you gain a great balance whilst performing.
The technique phrases I demonstrated accurately and confidently is the sense of dynamics, I emphasized the leaps as being strong and accurately diagonal. Adding onto straight after having the left arm up half way and spinning anti clockwise which was more slow and gently, leading on straight with a salute gesture (having the right arm rise up diagonally and doing the same on the opposite diagonal) finishing off with a high kick. I strongly believe I clearly demonstrated these movements confidently and accurately. I kept practicing for my legs to be kicked higher and higher during each lesson with Dominique, that was my goal and to always remember to point my toes at all times.

The interpretative skills I applied to my performance was having a mindset of a warrior as in during the last section of the dance, we do a dance movement in three’s, which includes having our palms up and our right leg in a window positions leading on to a ‘swish’ anti clockwise with a sudden warrior leap in which me, Cagal and Courtney do together. These are the interpretative skills I've applied to enable to have the understanding of the piece as i researched it and read the overview of ‘Richard Alston’s dance style the choreographic process and analysis of his 2003 work Overdrive’ (Copy of Richard Alston ‘Overdrive).
The aspects of my techniques in which I still need improvements upon is my ‘turn outs’ as Dominique herself has picked up upon during the Contemporary Dance my class performed on which was done two weeks ago. I truly understand that this would let me down from getting a reasonable grade in contemporary dance as this would massively let me down even though I present the choreography confidently and remember all my diagonals.

The targets I would personally set myself are the fact I need to reduce the sense of me panicking as this effected my group performance, as I forgot one part of my choreography which threw me off and I continued improvising until I synchronized with my group before going off stage. The other target I would set myself is that I need to be more confident to try new techniques within contemporary even though I find it hard at first I should give my all from the start as I would be able to make a massive progress quicker.
