The Seance

The Séance.
From the time being in my acting lesson we have been focusing on a play called 'Séance' which was written by Anthony Neilson who was born in 1967 in Edinburgh. He is a Scottish playwright and director commonly associated with the "in-year-face theatre" movement and is known for his collaborative way of writing and work shopping his plays. His work is characterised by the exploration of sex and violence. He began his career at the Finborough Theatre, London.

Everyone got given their own characters to play within the scene. The play was based upon teenagers who all went to Ryan's house to play the Ouija Board. Some people were scared of the idea and some were all up for a challenge. As Sophie and Mark got to Ryan house they realised that the board wasn't really a proper Ouija board, which left them extremely disappointed. This was demonstrated in the way Sophie said "is this it" as well as Mark repeating in the same manner in (page 323) "This is it yeah?".

In the play, I got given the role of  a male character called Mark, hiss character in the play comes across as a person who complains a lot and loves to focus on how they could always make a situation better which also shows during him saying "This is it yeah?... Shit, man it's not even a proper fucking board man" Furthermore I understood that Mark has a personality that he thinks he is always right, as he tells everyone "we could've all chipped in...You should put numbers on it, this helps me identify that he is also a perfectionist. Which I can relate to , as I am a perfectionist too.
