VOGUE
Tuesday 4th November 2014:
Today, Dominique introduced us with voguing which I was familiar with from Madonna's old music videos which included gay guys voguing. Voguing was invented by 'Gay Black and Latino Americans' which is high stylized in the sector of modern house dance. Dominique put split us in groups of fours and were given already some choreography ideas to include in our piece. Adding onto that our task was to make 4 bars of 8 choreography of the style Vogue using only the old version of voguing. My group had fun with this way of dancing as you can be widely creative. What went well was that we had a quick creative mind set which allowed us to make up a choreography fast. However their was disagreements between Martha and Denielle about keeping our choreography still in a square as we were told by Dominique to keep. Finally performing our choreography in front of our class, not going to lie but it was nerve racking as we found it strange to Vogue and keep our face steady and fierce. To conclude I believe we done a great job at it, I am proud of my team!
WALTZ
Today, Dominique's lesson we done a ballet warm up, which included a basic pile and tendu, which I found massively challenging as I've never done ballet before. So all the plie's and trying your best to not stick out your bottom, was a real challenge for me. Straight after that we got introduced to waltz, the basic footwork for a male and female dancer. Which was perfectly demonstrated by Nancy. What went well was that I picked up the steps quite easily but was struggling to place my arms in the right place and keeping it strong ,as my arms end up getting floppy. I enjoyed the box steps as it made me feel as if I was independent and professional in dancing with a partner. With my partner Sonia I felt more and ease because when I got a step wrong she got it wrong too, so this made me comfortable making mistakes and she's at the same stage as me too.
